Role description: Rescue Centre Supervisor for a Somerset based Charity, which rescues sighthounds and is breed specific.

Salary: £23,300 p.a. (approx).

Job Type: Full time with flexible working hours required. The role does have living accommodation provided in a beautiful location in North Somerset and on-site living is required.

Role is to look after up to nine rescue dogs, up to five boarding dog and occasionally a dog(s) in isolation area.


FULL JOB DESCRIPTION

Bristol Dog Action Welfare Group (Greyhound & Lurcher Rescue) is currently looking to recruit a full time Rescue Centre Supervisor to be an integral part of our exciting new plans for the future of the Rescue Centre. We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivational and inspirational individual who is a good communicator with leadership and organisational skills. They need to be passionate about our rescued sighthounds and willing to go that extra mile to do whatever it takes to transform their lives.

· Hours are 36 per week, over 6 working days. Flexibility during the working day, days off and times present will be needed.

· Annual leave 28 days inclusive of bank holidays.

· Salary £23,300 p.a. (approx) depending on experience and qualifications

· Reporting to Trustees of the Charity, who are very pro-active and hands on and make the day-to-day decisions for the Charity to meet the objectives set down in their Constitution.


MAIN PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE JOB

· To be responsible for the overall efficient and effective running of the Centre, in line with Bristol DAWG’s policies and core values.

· To ensure all animals at the Rescue Centre are cared for to the highest standards of animal welfare.

· By appointment, deal with the general public who the Trustees have vetted to view potential dogs to adopt, to also undertake handovers and paperwork when a dog is adopted. (Adoption/Microchip paperwork dealt with by a Trustee).

· In conjunction with the kennel operative, oversee any dogs that are brought in or collected from the boarding side of the business i.e. must see and retain up to date vaccination card, plus any relevant insurance documents.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES

· Full UK manual Driving Licence.

· If possible at least 2 years experience in a reputable Animal Rescue Centre.

· Excellent organisation, planning, administrative and time management skills.

· Varied IT skills including Microsoft Word and Excel preferred, but training can be given.


OTHER REQUIREMENTS

· An individual who is prepared to proactively work with the Trustees.

· A good team player, articulate, physically fit and confident.

· Outside work in all weathers is a feature of the role.

· Adaptability and drive.

· Ability to work under pressure at times.

JOB DESCRIPTION TO INCLUDE:


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

· To lead and motivate staff to deliver excellent standards of customer care and animal welfare.

· To be responsible for the welfare of staff, visitors and volunteers.

· To work in conjunction with the kennel operative(s) and to cover their duties on days off, with additional help being provided when necessary. These duties include kennel cleaning, feeding, medication, exercising of dogs and administration within the kennel environment.

· The Rescue Centre Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing the Centre, welfare of the animals, employees and volunteers; security of the premises and all property occupied by the Charity, including the health and safety of all persons on site.

· To undertake a weekly physical inspection of all dogs, paying particular detail to teeth, nails, condition, weight etc, reporting any issues to the Trustees. Responsible for flea/worm treatments when due.

· Undertake viewings of the dogs by the public (by appointment only) with whom the Trustees have met and passed the home check procedure.

· Undertake handover paperwork (this will be provided by the Trustees) for dogs when adopted, ensuring adequate explanations are provided in relation to collars, muzzles and slip leads etc.

· In conjunction with the kennel operative oversee any dogs that board at the Centre.

· Be responsible for the proper use of the isolation block when unvaccinated dogs are brought in or sick dogs identified that need to be isolated from the others.

· To ensure all volunteers are adequately informed of their responsibilities. The Charity presently has several competent volunteers, mainly dog walkers.

· Ensure posters, stories, photos and videos of the rescued dogs are available to the Trustee responsible for the website and Facebook communication.

· Deal openly and promptly with any personnel or HR issues as they arise, liaising with Trustees accordingly.

· Be prepared to “muck in” when short staffed, or the needs of the dogs dictate.

· To ensure someone is on site at all times.

· In conjunction with the kennel operative ensure early morning procedure re the dogs being toileted etc and also to ensure the last thing at night procedure is followed to keep kennel soiling to a minimum.


GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

· To monitor the health and wellbeing of all animals whilst on site, including enrichment and diet. Arrange and attend vet visits, liaising with the Trustees.

· Refer any complaints/disputes with the public to the Trustees.

· Ensure the whole site is kept clean and tidy and any maintenance addressed expediently, referring any issues/concerns to the Trustees.

· Ensure that all income received is documented and handed to the person responsible for banking thereof.

· Undertake control and reconciliation of petty cash held and report to the Treasurer income/expenditure/balance monthly. Very straightforward and not onerous.

· Organise and liaise with any contractors on site.

· Oversee energy efficiencies at the Rescue Centre re saving electric i.e. heat lamps.

· To initially have regular meetings with the Trustees and to attend part of the monthly Committee Meetings to provide a report to the Trustees. These are normally held at the Rescue Centre.
