Bristol DAWG

Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue

2 July 2016

We would like to welcome Roger and Vicky to that very special club "failed fosterers"!!! Roger and Vicky came to the kennels to foster a big black boy, sadly we didn't have one (which is unusual), so they fostered the lovely Millie. I think it took nearly a whole week to decide that they couldn't part with her!!

When I went to do the adoption on Saturday evening it was like she had been part of the family for years, with Sam, Holly and Millie all now best friends and totally relaxed around each other.

Thank you both so much for failing!!! and thanks to Sam and Holly (lurchers) for allowing Millie to be part of their pack.

3 July 2016

It has been a brilliant week for Bristol DAWG as, in just over a week, we have had four adoptions and one reserve. Lady and Joe last weekend and Bob and Millie this weekend.

Bob has been adopted by Robin and Lorraine who live in Cheddar. Sadly they have recently lost their greyhound and it has left a very big hole, so they decided it was time to give another dog a lovely home.

Thank you Robin and Lorraine for giving this very handsome boy a second chance in life and huge thanks to Jess and Andy for very kindly fostering Bob for the last three weeks and showing him all about home life.

4 July 2016

What a brilliant week for Bristol DAWG with yet another adoption - we are now at five in just over a week, which is amazing.

Blue (now renamed Hugo) has gone to live in Wick with Lindsay, Andy and their lovely lurcher, Cracker.

We would like to thank Lindsay and Andy for giving Blue a wonderful new home.

"DAWGUST" is coming
The Irish greyhounds aren't getting fat
Please put some pennies in Eila's little hat!!!!

The DAWGUST fund currently stands at just over £950 (including Gift Aid) and we are still just over a week away from the official start of the appeal.

I know lots of you are organising DAWGUST events - these are are few that we are aware of:

Quiz Evening
Charity Auction - watch this space for details
Charity Fun Walk
Flower Arranging Demonstration
Abstain from Coffee for a month

to mention just a few.

If you are organising an event, please let us know - get your thinking caps on!!

A JustGiving page will be set up for this and we really hope that if you feel passionate about greyhounds, or indeed your greyhound is an “Eila Dog”, you will want to help.

If you do not want to organise anything, you may just wish to make a donation to say “thank you” for the wonderful work Eila does – this lady has dedicated her life to saving dogs. I personally am so grateful as I have two wonderful dogs from her.

25 July 2016

Massive, massive thank you to all our lovely DAWG owners who came along to support the Greyhound Picnic yesterday - it was brilliant to see so many previous DAWG residents and their owners. Despite the weather the day was a great and we managed to raise £335 from goods on Jane's stall, £145 for the DAWGUST Appeal to help Eila and a further £94 in our charity bucket. An amazing £574 in total!!

Thank you to the organisers for another really enjoyable day.

Wonderful news, Figura, the galgo, who came to us earlier this year, has now found his forever home, in Bradford on Avon, with Jane and her lovely dog, Joe. This is a really quiet home, which is just what he needed. We have just had an update from Jane which I thought I would share with you.

"Figgy continues to go from strength to strength - his confidence is growing daily tho' he still has his meltdowns. This pic. was taken by a male dog walking friend last Friday! Seems much easier with men if they have a dog with them. His true personality is beginning to show...he is definitely a thinker and a problem-solver. He also stood up for himself when an over-ambitious whippet tried to dominate mount him! He seems to respond better to 'Figura' than to 'Figgy' tho' he has earned the sobriquet 'El Woofo' because he has become a very good house/guard dog (doubtless following Joe's example). He has a remarkably deep voice for such a slender frame!"

Thank you Jane and Joe for giving this very handsome boy the great home he so deserves.
