Bristol DAWG

Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue

1 March 2021

We are now in a position to offer boarding to dogs that have been previous residents of Bristol DAWG. Spaces will be limited, as we only want to keep this on a small scale, but we are constantly asked for recommendations when people are looking to go on holiday or that odd weekend away.
To leave your dog with us we would need to see proof that your dog is fully vaccinated and has had the kennel cough vaccine – sadly we are not able to accept any dogs without up to date vaccinations.

Jane has made this beautiful throw to raise funds for the dogs in our care. We want to rescue as many pointy noses as we can so every penny will help. It took Jane months of sweat and swear words but as you can see, she has achieved a unique and lovely throw that will look great on any double bed or as a large wall hanging. Usually we would auction this at the ball but for obvious reasons it didn’t take place last year. Tickets are £5 each and you can buy as many as you like. Closing date is 31st March and the winner will be drawn at 7pm on that day. Thank you, DAWG supporters are just brilliant.

Harry needed emergency veterinary treatment on Saturday, at a cost in excess of £1,000, following his surgery for retained testicles. We hate asking for help but big bills are crippling to the charity when we are unable to fundraise. Therefore Gerry has put together two fabulous Doggie Hampers - lots of lovely goodies!
Raffle tickets are £5 each or three for £10 via donation on JustGiving
The draw will take place today and the winners are Hilary Ann Dixon and Valeria Fabbri Kennedy. Congreytulations to them both.

We happened to mention to “Super Foster Mum” Ann Hyam that we needed new weighing scales at the Rescue Centre as our existing scales had given up the ghost and were beyond repair.
We always like to make sure we know exactly what the dogs weigh when they arrive, so we can monitor their progress and get their food exactly right. Most importantly, we want to make sure they are not losing weight through any medical reasons.
So Ann, who is 82 years young, came up with a plan to raise £300 to buy new scales. On 21 March she is having her hair dyed pink, she would love you to sponsor her HERE if you have a few pounds to spare and here she is below “in the pink”.
In fact, in the end Ann raised a total of £783, which will be enough to replace the scales and buy some benches for the paddocks!
Thank you Ann - we value your support so much.

We were joined in the early hours of this morning by six more beauties from Ireland. They are Ludo, Morgan, Reilly, Tess, Velvet and Wonder and they will be available for rehoming when they have been assessed.

Mousey has found his forever home in Kingswood with Kate and Adrian. They have lots of greyhound experience and Mousey is going to be a very lucky boy.
Think he will shortly have a new name (possibly Jimmy, but Kate was still thinking).
Thank you Eila Moloney for rescuing this lovely boy in Ireland.

There was an unexpected visitor at the kennels at 6.30 this morning! Happily no one was hurt but the fence and the van are a little the worse for wear!

28 March 2021

Just had the best news ever, it is always lovely when a dog goes off to a new home, but when they have been through so much it is extra special.
Many of you over the last three months have been following Harry's story, such a terrified little boy who came off one of the Pets 4 Sale pages, retained testicles, emergency vet following operation, it seemed one thing after another.
However in the last three months he has completely changed and is so much happier and more confident.
Today Gerry rang Karen to say someone would like to meet him, but Karen and Dave have been talking and they just can't part with him. This is amazing news and we are all so happy for this sweet little lad, who really does deserve the best of everything which he will get with Karen, Dave, Owen and Chloe.
Only downside to this is we have lost a super foster family!!!
Be happy Harry xxx

The raffle for this beautiful throw, handmade especially by Jane, was drawn this evening and the winner was none other than our dear friend in Ireland, Eila Moloney, who is responsible for rescuing so many of our beautiful dogs.

Congreytulations Eila!
