Bristol DAWG

Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue

During September we are running a “month of wishes” to give our kennel dogs some special treats and toys. We are always extremely grateful for your cash donations but thought we would ask you to consider buying goodies for the dogs instead of donating money. Huge thanks to Platinum Petcare, our partner in this scheme.
Here is your wishlist link.
All you have to do is select your items, add them to the basket and then select "collect in store". Use the code BD10 at checkout for 10% off.
The items will then make their way to us at the rescue centre.
Alternatively you can call into the Platinum Petcare shop in Staple Hill.
Thank you

We are now in a position to offer boarding to dogs that have been previous residents of Bristol DAWG. Spaces will be limited, as we only want to keep this on a small scale, but we are constantly asked for recommendations when people are looking to go on holiday or that odd weekend away.
To leave your dog with us we would need to see proof that your dog is fully vaccinated and has had the kennel cough vaccine – sadly we are not able to accept any dogs without up to date vaccinations.

Another fabulous walk today at Blaise Castle, this walk was in memory of the lovely Woody who left Jayne Hemmingsley far too young.
Almost 70 dogs were counted - what an amazing sight of so many pointy noses (and a few non pointy noses of course).
Thank you to everyone who supported this event and to owners who bought goodies for their dogs.
The day raised a fantastic £889.

Lovely Flash our seven year old girl has been on home trial with the Lewis family in Whitchurch as they have a twelve year old Lab cross called Brian.
Only been in her new home twelve days and they have decided they want to adopt her. Seven years in kennels is a long time, but Flash is adjusting so well and watching everything that Brian does.
Thank you for giving Flash the home she so deserves. Thanks also to Eila Moloney for rescuing her in Ireland.

Weather permitting we will be having a get together on Sunday, 3 October. Not such a big event as the Open Day in August, more like a coffee morning - come and have a cuppa, a slice of cake and a chat. We will be selling doggy goodies such as warm walking out coats and fleeces. 11am - 3pm
Everyone welcome, bring a picnic and a chair and hope for good weather!

Spent a lovely hour this morning with Emma and Robert who have just adopted the very sweet Daisy. Paperwork now complete, so it's official Daisy now has her forever home. Think she is going to be one very lucky girl. Thank you Emma and Robert for giving Daisy a lovely home and thanks to our good friend Eila Moloney for rescuing her in Ireland.

Would you bake some Christmas cakes and cookies for us?
Must be in good condition and working please
Please let Diane know.

Avon Riding Centre

For obvious reasons our Annual Doggie Day didn't happen in 2021, but the above date has been booked.
As times have been a little hard over the last sixteen months it would be great if we could get more of our volunteers involved to help, so if anyone has any bright ideas for organising and running a stall on the day this would be very welcome.
There will be space for outside stalls but we would like to try and fill with as many DAWG stalls as possible.
There is always a Dog Show, Stalls, Fastest Sprint, Nail Clipping, lots of Doggie items for sale, but if anyone could organise a Bottle Tombola, Raffle, Sausage Bobbing, Teddy Tombola - basically any ideas very gratefully received where we can raise money. As the trustees will be tied up with organisation of the whole event, any volunteers will have to be solely responsible for what they have organised.
There will be refreshments - any baking of cakes would be very gratefully received.
Four months away so please put your thinking caps on if you would like to help.
Please contact us if you feel you may be able to organise and run a stall.

26 September 2021

Spent a lovely hour this morning with the Gregory family and their greyhound girlie Saffie.
Spud has been on home trial for two weeks just to make sure that the dogs got along. It couldn't have gone any better as Spud is so laid back that it really is the perfect match.
Thank you for giving this lovely boy a wonderful home. Thanks also to our good friend Eila McNamara for rescuing him in Ireland and sending him to us.

IF you have kindly offered us something for the upcoming Christmas auction please could you get in touch so either Gerry or Megan can collect?
We are aiming to start the auction in the next week
It will be over in the Auction group.

28 September 2021

We would like to thank the Pets At Home Foundation for awarding us a most generous grant for a brand new van, sign writing and caging to enable us to transport the dogs safely.
It took a while to get everything sorted, but yesterday the caging was completed and we now have a fully operational vehicle.
The last sixteen months has not been easy to say the least, but Pets At Home and the Pets At Home Foundation have been amazing and supported us throughout.
Thank you from everyone at Bristol DAWG, both two legged and four!!

28 September 2021

This year we will have a Bristol DAWG calendar thanks to Stacey Nevill and Megan and Kim Simpkins-Jenkins.
Gerry has seen the proof for these and is absolutely delighted, Stacey's photography is just brilliant and Megan and Kim have very kindly paid for the calendars to be printed, so Bristol DAWG will receive 100% of the proceeds.
These should be available for the Christmas Market at the Rescue Centre in November.
Thank you ladies you are such wonderful supporters.

Many of you will have met Morgan on a recent greyhound walk. This lovely boy arrived needing quite a major operation as he had retained testicles, but all went smoothly and he now has a new home and a new name (Jax). He has been on a two week home trial as he also has a new brother, Kobi, another Bristol DAWG dog adopted back last year.
Thank you Gary and Dawn for giving this lovely boy a new forever home. Thanks also to Graham and Catherine Hendy for very kindly fostering Jax and getting him through his operation - you did an amazing job, as always.
